Japanese Flower Patterns

Here is my version of the Japanese flowers, and a couple different sizes I created.
3-D Japanese Flower

3-D Japanese Flower

This flowers is worked in 3 rounds of center, and 3 rounds of petals. The petals will be worked from outer round into center.

1. ch3, join to form a ring. Ch4 (counts as 1dc + ch1), dc, ch1 eleven times in ring. (12 dc, 12 ch1)

2. Ch5 (counts as dc + ch2), in each ch1 space from previous row, dc, ch2 around. Join in 3rd ch of beg ch5. (12 dc, 12 ch2)

3. Ch4, sl st in next dc, ch4, continue around. Center complete.

4. Sl st into next ch4 sp. Working in this same ch4 sp, ch3, 1dc, ch5, 2dc. In each remaining ch4 sp, 2dc, ch5, 2dc. Join in top of beg ch3.

5. 8dc around the next ch5 loop, sl st in middle of next 4dc from previous round. Repeat around ending with sl st. Fasten off.

6. Join yarn in any ch2 sp from round 2. Working in this same ch2 sp, ch3, 1dc, ch5, 2dc. In each remaining ch2 sp, 2dc, ch5, 2dc. Join in top of beg ch3.

7. 8dc around the next ch5 loop, sl st in middle of next 4dc from previous round. Repeat around ending with sl st. Fasten off.

8. Using a 1-2x's smaller hook, join yarn in any ch1 sp from round 1. Working in this same ch1 sp, ch3, 1dc, ch5, 2dc. In each remaining ch1 sp, 2dc, ch5, 2dc. Join in top of beg ch3.

9. 8dc around the next ch5 loop, sl st in middle of next 4dc from previous round. Repeat around ending with sl st. Fasten off.

Japanese Flower (pic shown below)

1. ch3, join to form a ring. Ch4 (counts as 1dc + ch1), dc, ch1 eleven times in ring. (12 dc, 12 ch1)

2. Ch5 (counts as dc + ch2), in each ch1 space from previous row, dc, ch2 around. Join in 3rd ch of beg ch5. (12 dc, 12 ch2)

3. Sl st into next ch2 sp. Working in this same ch2 sp, ch3, 1dc, ch5, 2dc. In each remaining ch2 sp, 2dc, ch5, 2dc. Join in top of beg ch3.

3 1/2. It is best and easiest to join as you go with these flowers. If you are going to join them, read this before going to step 4.
Instead of doing 8 dc in loop, do 4dc, pick any petal on the next flower to join. You will join in the sp between 4-5th dc's on the petal, or in the 4th dc st. I use the 4th dc st to join mine. Just sl st into the other flower petal, then continue with 4 more dc to complete the petal. You will join flowers with 2 petals from each flower. In other words, you'll need 6 flowers with 1 in the center to make a circle. Each flower has 2 petals connected to another.

4. 8dc around the next ch5 loop, sl st in middle of next 4dc from previous round. Repeat around ending with sl st. Weave all ends in.

Here is my Mini Japanese Flower

Make a magic ring, leaving it loose enough to put 6 sts in.

1. Pull up a loop, ch8. Sl st in ring. Ch 8, sl st in ring. continue until you have 6 ch8 loops. End with sl st.

2. 10 hdc around loop, sl st in previous rounds sl st. Continue around, ending with sl st.

Be sure to pull your magic ring tight and weave ends in.

If you are joining as you go as in the pic below, you will join in the sp between 5-6th hdc's on the petal, or in the 5th hdc st. I use the 5th hdc st to join mine. Just sl st into the other flower petal, then continue with 5 more hdc to complete the petal.
